Textbook Drive

To move along with our Library Project, we are raising money to procure textbooks for our 5th and 6th-grade students for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year. Books are the biggest expense at our partner school, but they are lacking. Students often go the entire school year without a full arsenal of books, sharing with each other or copying questions from the professor’s copy to do homework at home. It’s not unusual for teachers to spend time writing questions on the board for students because the entire class may not have a book, wasting valuable instruction hours. This affects the quality of education students can receive and limit the teachers’ capacity.

FAQ:

1. Why is CPP only purchasing books for the 5th and 6th grades?

We eventually want to expand the textbook loan program to all grade levels. However, books for younger students are consumable, this makes them more expensive and they need to be purchased yearly. 5th and 6th-grade books are cheaper, allowing us to provide for more students and for multiple years to come!

2. How much do books cost?

Providing textbook for one 5th or 6th grade cost about $116 per student. This amount is almost twice the average monthly salary of parents, making purchasing books and materials (i.e., pencils, notebooks, uniforms, etc.) an enormous financial burden.

3. Can I donate monthly to support CPP’s work?

Yes! You can make monthly donations through this fundraiser which will enroll you in our Education Angels program. You can find it here

4. How much of my donation is going to the textbook drive?

You can ensure 100% of your donation is sent to EPE by opting to cover a small processing fee ranging from $1.08 to $1.41. Additionally, the CPP board covers transaction fees when transferring donations to Cap-Haitien so everything you give reaches the school!

5. Where can I stay up-to-date on CPP activities?

We post regular updates on Instagram (@childrenspeaceproject) and Facebook (@cppgiveshope)!
