7.2 Magnitude Earthquake hits Southern Haiti

As you all may have heard, the southern Haitian peninsula was hit by an earthquake early Saturday August 14th. Per UNICEF, the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks have killed over 2,200 people and injured more than 12,000 more. A total of 1.2 million people were affected, of which half a million are children. The destruction of churches, schools, and homes coupled with hurricanes and tsunami threats heightened the vulnerability of this population. Half a million children without access to immediate needs like shelter, water, food, and healthcare.

We ask that you carefully consider the power of your support and where you chose to send it. In trying to provide desperate need, think about long term economic growth and how you can support relief while promoting Haitian self-determination in the long-term.
